GARAGE CONVERSIONS
South Wales Garage Conversion Specialists
An attached or integral garage represents a significant amount of usable floor space that many homeowners leave underused. Converting that space into a habitable room, whether a home office, utility room, playroom, or extra bedroom, is often more cost-effective than extending or moving. Powell Build LTD carries out garage conversions across South Wales, handling all structural work, insulation, damp proofing, electrics, plumbing, plastering, and finishing trades to create a space that meets building regulations and functions properly as part of the home.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
What We Cover In A Garage Conversion
Structural Alterations
Most garage conversions involve removing the garage door and forming a new front elevation, whether that is a solid wall with a window, a glazed section, or a combination. We handle all brickwork, lintels, and structural alterations required to close off the opening and form the new facade.
Conversion Protection
Garages are not built to habitation standard, which means the floor, walls, and roof all need upgrading before the space can be used as a room. We install the required insulation, damp proof membranes, and build up the floor level to match the rest of the property, then apply a finished floor surface.
Multi Trade Finishes
Once the shell is properly insulated and weathertight, we bring in first fix electrics and plumbing where required, then plaster, install joinery, and apply all finishing trades. The space is handed over as a fully finished room, ready to use.

PLANNING PERMISSION
Do Garage Conversions Need Planning Permission?
In most cases, converting an integral or attached garage to habitable use falls under permitted development rights and does not require planning permission, though building regulations approval is always required. There are exceptions, particularly in conservation areas or where previous extensions have used up permitted development allowances. We can advise on the planning position for your specific property before any work begins.
ADDS VALUE
Practical Space That Improves How The Property Functions
A well-executed garage conversion adds usable square footage, improves how the house works day to day, and is likely to be reflected in its value. Unlike an extension, there is no additional footprint to consider and in most cases no planning permission required. If your garage is currently used for storage that could be reorganised elsewhere, a conversion is worth serious consideration.
